Project Timetable

  • Tuesday 23rd last lesson- film entire confrontation scene and hopefully the flashback scene.
  • Wednesday 24th lunchtime- edit film segment in Final-cut and hopefully add sound whilst any missing shots are being filmed.
  • Thursday 25th lunchtime - complete editing and sound ad upload to blog.
  • Friday 26th third lesson- Deadline

Filming Re-scheduling

Due to there being far too many occasions when we could film but no one is in college we have decided to firmly schedule a filming session for Tuesday 23rd February last lesson. We have contacted our actors to see if they are available and to give them notice.
We could not film today because only two members of our group are in college due to the snow. We would also not be able to film at our location because the snow would mess with our continuity if it melted and we would have to film it from the beginning all over again.
We shall try and film the whole project on Tuesday however if this is not possible we want to film at least the confrontation scene without the flashback.
We must complete our filming and editing by Friday 26th February. This gives us 3 days for Becca and Kathryn to complete directing and filming, Jennie to edit and Darren to create the sound for our project.

Filming Problems

During our practical filming time we encountered problems which have hindered our project.
Firstly after filming the flashback scene we tried to upload our footage however we thought there was not sound on the video. Next lesson we discovered that it had sound on it and so went out to film then next scene unfortunately after 2 1/2 hours of filming we then discovered that the camera hadn't been filming video and our footage was just blank with another group's mumbling over the top. The camera had also taped over our previous work.

Because of this we have decided to try and film our whole film segment during and after the half term holidays.

New Storyboard

Because of re-scripting and changes in locations and props we had to re-storyboard our film segment. Using the new storyboard will make filming a lot more organized as we know what we are going to be filming in how the shots are set up.

Read through

After timing a read through of our script and allowing time for actions, we concluded that the sequence should take between 2 to 3 minutes. We think that our project will be more towards 3 than 2 minutes as we allowed the minimum time for actions.

Highlighted script

This is the highlighted version of the script. The highlighted bits are the sound effects we will need to record separately.

Location

This is the bench we have decided to film part of our sequence at. It is in college by the D block. The bench shall become the setting linked with the characters Darius and his mate. By filming most of their scenes here and showing their agrovation as Marcus invades their area, it makes it clear to the audience that Darius and his friend consider the bench their territory.

Problems we've had

While planning, we have found several problems, especially with where and when to film. Originally, we wanted to film in the train station but couldn't because of permission issues and the risk of using gun props. We then wanted to film on private property in Cottenham so that no one could see the 'guns' but we couldn't because it would be too dark to film by the time we got there. We have now decided to film in college on the field and cut out the part using guns. We have had to change our script and storyboard slightly to adjust to this.

Script 2

Script 2.
Characters: Darius, Jordan, Emma & Marcus

First shot of Darius and Jordan chilling and smoking on a bench.

DARIUS: This is fucked up man, she wanted the stuff... she was just getting on my nerves, she pushed me to do it. I didn't mean to do it...

JORDAN: Yeah I know bruv, the girl is a freak.

(Flashback) Darius and Emma

EMMA: Please just give me some more, I'll pay you back the money I owe you.

DARIUS: Na, you've had enough. Just go home Emma.

EMMA: Don't be a prick Darius. I need it, please.

She moves closer towards him, invading his personal space. He takes a step back, looking at her in disgust.

EMMA: Please?

DARIUS: Emma, just fuck off. I'm not going to give you any more so you might as well give up. Don't force me to make you stop.

EMMA: You're such a prick!

She pushes him in anger. Darius' expression is angry, she pushes him again.

EMMA: Just give me the fucking stuff!

She pushes him again, this time he pushes her back in retaliation, but she falls down. She screams.
(Cuts back to the present)
JORDAN: Who's this Marcus boy think he is?

DARIUS: Emma's boyfriend man, met him a couple times when she came to pick up.

Shot cuts to Marcus and Emma walking up the car park towards the bench.

MARCUS: Gonna sort this out once and for all.

EMMA: We don't have to do this Marcus, It's over - It doesn't matter...

MARCUS: Yeah it does. That piece of scum can't get away with hurting you like that.

Walks round the corner. Bench is in shot.

MARCUS: He best be here.

Marcus walks towards the bench. Darius jumps up and walks closer to confront him, Jordan follows.

DARIUS: You what blud? What do you want?!

MARCUS: You know what Darius. You're gonna pay for what you did to Emma.

DARIUS: You know jack shit Marcus. You weren't there, you don't know what happened. Isn't that right Emma?

Emma blushes and turns away.

MARCUS: I don't give a fuck mate. You hurt her, who do you think you are treating a girl like that?

Marcus fiercely walks towards Darius, who stands his ground. Emma grabs hold of Marcus' arm, he turns to look at her.
EMMA: Please Marcus! Don't do this!

Marcus glares at her.

MARCUS: Get off me Emma.

She lets go, scared. Darius gets closer to Marcus and gets in his face to agitate him.

DARIUS: What? You think your a badman now? Wanna fight me?

MARCUS: We'll see who's the badman.

Shot of Darius and Marcus facing each other. Marcus and Darius staring at each other, then both move in to attack one another. Blackout.

End of Scene.

Changes to project

Because we are including a gun in our narrative and mise-en-scene we needed to find a location that would allow us to film without scaring the public. Because of this we have moved location to an open area in Cottenham where no one goes.

We have also decided that only one of the boys is going to have a gun which makes the scene more realistic. Only having one gun also makes the prop more dramatic and makes the power dynamic in the scene clearer. Making the gun an emphasized aspect of the mise-en-scene much like in Bullet Boy (2005, Saul Dibb) and La Haine (2004, Mathieu Kassovitz).

Because of the change of location Becca has had to edit the script a little and to fit this Jennie shall re-storyboard the scene.
